Prof. Waswa Balunywa is the Executive Director of The Waswa Balunywa Foundation and the Founder and Executive Director of The Waswa Balunywa Leadership Academy, both of which are non-governmental, not-for-profit organizations established to support community development.
The Waswa Balunywa Foundation focuses on vulnerable groups, especially women, with the intention of improving their standards of living. Through the Foundation, women have been trained in business start-up and now run a SACCO from which they borrow money for business purposes. The Foundation also supports education by sponsoring young girls in primary schools, giving them access to opportunities they would otherwise miss.
The Waswa Balunywa Leadership Academy, established about one and a half years ago, was founded to address a critical gap among young people graduating from universities and other tertiary institutions who often lack the knowledge and skills required to enter the world of work. The Academy also responds to the increasing desire among youth to take on leadership positions in their careers and later lives, yet face a shortage of training facilities.
Today, through the Waswa Balunywa Leadership Academy and AKB Hospital, we continue to honor that founding vision - nurturing the next generation of leaders while ensuring everyone has access to compassionate healthcare, education, and skills that can help communities face their future challenges. Our work has expanded to include multiple programs addressing education, health, empowerment, and community development.
